T-0: Thunderbirds are go!

T-0: Thunderbirds are go!

The day has finally arrived. We have got to Heathrow and we are ready to leave…. We have been verified by a number of countries (visas), stabbed in the arm countless times (vaccinations) and packed and repacked our bags thousands of times (travel light). So just before we go, here is a list of everything in ours bags. We’ve split some of the stuff we’re carrying, so Duncan is carrying all the sun screen, while Claire is carrying more of the medication, for example….

T-5: Things we’ve learnt in the last month(ish)

T-5: Things we’ve learnt in the last month(ish)

So after finishing work at the beginning of July, we’ve been taking some time off to sort our lives out and get ready to go. While it sounds very relaxing taking a month off before going travelling, its been anything but! Running around seeing people, packing the flat up, cleaning, and various other little bits have eaten up almost all our time. Highlights of this period (for me) have got to be when we went punting in Cambridge for Claire’s birthday, climbing the…

T-32: Vis à Vis

T-32: Vis à Vis

Amongst the many things you need to organise before travelling there are certain countries that require visas. Side note: thanks to Brexit a whole lot more very soon…. but at least the £ hasn’t fallen… Oh. We are travelling to the following countries; Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand and (potentially) the Cook Islands. In order to get our information we went to Gov.uk – however all countries have their own visa requirements website for the latest information. For a quick summary skip to…

T-60: Limbo

T-60: Limbo

Limbo is “an uncertain period of awaiting a decision or resolution; an intermediate state or condition”. Ok so not quite 100% accurate as we are not awaiting a decision or resolution however it’s the best term I can think to how two months to go feels.   I am currently debating if this post is worthy of publishing however I am trying to keep this blog as accurate to the lead up as possible, keeping document of all feelings and progressions…

T-72: Wanting to stay alive is expensive (what we learnt from vaccinations)

T-72: Wanting to stay alive is expensive (what we learnt from vaccinations)

Well, we’re now at a point where everyone who needs to know now knows about us going travelling. Which is a relief, because now there’s no concerns of saying we’re going away. No pressure, no “did I just say something I shouldn’t have?” thoughts anymore. While thats all good, we now have to turn our attention to vaccinations. As it turns out, vaccinations are expensive. It wouldn’t be so bad if we weren’t travelling in the countryside and in the…

T-135: Travel Insurance

T-135: Travel Insurance

Evening all, So a big part of going on any holiday, even within the home country, is travel insurance. Nikki recommended that we purchased our travel insurance first, as that way we are immediately covered. The last thing we wanted was to book it and something horrible to happen before we booked our insurance! After a bit of our own research Duncan ended up with STA Travel Insurance and I ended up with AA Travel Insurance – they are fully comprehensive as we thought better safe…

T-150

T-150

Day: T-150 A little while ago Duncan and I decided to ‘pack in our jobs and go travelling’ and today feels like the best day to start our travel blog. As you can probably guess, we are going to Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand between the 10th August 2016 – 4th January 2017 (after spending Christmas/New Year with family)   Anyway, a little thing you should know is that I am an obsessive, control freak whose job is to coordinate, manage and control, while…
